CANADA INTERNATIONAL MERCHANDISE TRADE, AUGUST 2019

In August 2019, the Canadian merchandise trade (balance of payment basis, seasonally adjusted) balance was a deficit of $955.3 million. Exports are up 1.8 per cent to $50.6 billion over July 2019, and are down 0.2 per cent over August 2018. Imports are up 1.0 per cent to $51.5 billion over July 2019, and are up 0.9 per cent over August 2018.

 

YEAR-TO-DATE

In the period Jan-Aug 2019, the year-to-date Canadian merchandise trade deficit reached $11.9 billion. Year-to-date goods Exports were valued at $400.4 billion and year-to-date goods Imports were valued at $412.3 billion.

 

TRADE PARTNERS

In August 2019, the Canadian merchandise trade (balance of payment basis, seasonally adjusted) surplus with the United States widened to $4.9 billion.

In August 2019, the Canadian merchandise trade (balance of payment basis, seasonally adjusted) deficit with China narrowed to $1.5 billion.

In August 2019, the Canadian merchandise trade (balance of payment basis, seasonally adjusted) deficit with the European Union widened to $1.3 billion.
