In July 2019, the Canadian merchandise trade (balance of payment basis, seasonally adjusted) balance was a deficit of $1.1 billion. Exports are down 0.9 per cent to $49.8 billion over June 2019, and are down 2.9 per cent over July 2018. Imports are up 1.2 per cent to $50.9 billion over June 2019, and are down 0.7 per cent over July 2018.
YEAR-TO-DATE
In the period Jan-Jul 2019, the year-to-date Canadian merchandise trade deficit reached $10.6 billion. Year-to-date goods Exports were valued at $350.1 billion and year-to-date goods Imports were valued at $360.6 billion.
TRADE PARTNERS
In July 2019, the Canadian merchandise trade (balance of payment basis, seasonally adjusted), surplus with the United States narrowed to $4.6 billion.
In July 2019, the Canadian merchandise trade (balance of payment basis, seasonally adjusted), deficit with China widened to $1.8 billion.
In July 2019, the Canadian merchandise trade (balance of payment basis, seasonally adjusted), deficit with the European Union narrowed to $1.1 billion.
