In Jan-Jul 2019, Nova Scotia International Merchandise Trade Exports increased 6.5% ($223.2 million) over Jan-Jul 2018, to $3.6 billion.

Comparing Nova Scotia's exports for Jan-Jul 2019 with the same period last year the largest dollar value increase was in Farm, Fishing & Inter. Food ($138.8 million), Consumer Goods ($75.9 million), Machinery/Equipment ($49.1 million). The largest dollar value decreases were in Forestry/Building/Packaging Materials ($61.0 million), Energy ($21.7 million), and Metal/Mineral Products ($14.5 million).
On a year-to-date basis, export values increased in
- Machinery/Equipment by 72.9% ($49.1 million)
- Metal/Ores by 35.5% ($13.9 million)
- Farm, Fishing & Inter. Food by 21.3% ($138.8 million)
- Transportation Equipment by 15.3% ($5.0 million)
- Consumer Goods by 8.6% ($75.9 million)
- Electronics by 8% ($7.5 million)
- Special Transactions by 6.4% ($2.0 million)
- Motor vehicles/Parts by 3.6% ($27.3 million)
- Chemical, plastic, rubber by 0.5% ($0.9 million)
and export values decreased in
- Metal/Mineral Products by 10.9% (-$14.5 million)
- Forestry/Building/Packaging Materials by 12.3% (-$61.0 million)
- Energy by 67.5% (-$21.7 million)

In Jan-Jul 2019, Prince Edward Island reported the highest increase (14.2%), while New Brunswick reported the highest decline (9.0%) in merchandise trade exports over Jan-Jul 2018. Nova Scotia reported a 6.5% gain in merchandise trade exports. Canada reported a 1.9% gain in merchandise trade exports over Jan-Jul 2018.
Excluding energy exports, Newfoundland and Labrador reported the highest increase (47.1%) while British Columbia reported the highest decline (-6.1%) in Non-energy exports over Jan-Jul 2018. Nova Scotia reported a 7.2% gain in Non-energy exports. Canada reported a 2.0% gain in Non-energy exports over Jan-Jul 2018.

Nova Scotia’s trade continues to diversity.
In Nova Scotia Jan-Jul 2019, international export trade to all countries increased 6.5% to $3,637.8 million over Jan-Jul 2018.
- Consumer Goods led the way with a value of $958.8 million (26 % share), followed by
- Motor vehicles/Parts with a value of $793.6 million (22 % share),
- Farm, Fishing & Inter. Food with a value of $790.3 million (22 % share),
- Forestry/Building/Packaging Materials with a value of $433.5 million (12 % share),
- Chemical, plastic, rubber with a value of $190.3 million (5 % share),
- Metal/Mineral Products with a value of $119.3 million (3 % share),
- Machinery/Equipment with a value of $116.5 million (3 % share),
- Electronics with a value of $100.7 million (3 % share),
- Metal/Ores with a value of $52.8 million (1 % share),
- Transportation Equipment with a value of $37.3 million (1 % share),
- Special Transactions with a value of $34.1 million (1 % share), and,
- Energy with a value of $10.4 million (less than 1% share).
In the period Jan-Jul 2018 vs Jan-Jul 2019, year-to-date export trade to the United States increased 6.4% ($138.8 million) to $2,299.3 million. The United States share of total Nova Scotia exports was 63.2%.
Year-to-date export trade to China increased 24.6% ($113.0 million) to $571.8 million. China share of total Nova Scotia exports was 15.7%.
Year-to-date export trade to selected Asia countries (excluding China) increased 3.8% ($9.2 million) to $252.1 million. Japan up $1.7 million to $57.1 million; South Korea up $9.9 million to $71.1 million; Hong Kong up $4.4 million to $52.5 million; India up $1.5 million to $20.7 million; Taiwan down -$4.9 million to $8.5 million; Indonesia down $16.2 million to $15.7 million; Singapore up $12.81 million to $26.6 million. Other Major Asian share of total Nova Scotia exports was 6.9%.
Year-to-date export trade to selected Europe countries decreased 4.1% ($9.7 million) to $244.3 million. United Kingdom up $4.2 million to $52.2 million; Germany up $12.0 million to $35.5 million; Italy up $1.5 million to $10.3 million; France up $8.3 million to $49.6 million; Netherlands down $17.2 million to $44.6 million; Belgium up $7.6 million to $26.0 million; Spain down $6.7 million to $26.2 million. Major European countries share of total Nova Scotia exports was 6.7%
Year-to-date export trade to Other countries decreased 15.0% (-$47.6 million) to $270.2 million. Algeria down $126.0 million to $0.02 million; Australia down $16.6 million to $11.7 million; Brazil up $1.3 million to $9.0 million; Iraq down $0.7 million to $2.7 million; Mexico down $10.6 million to $36.2 million; Norway up $1.4 million to $12.5 million; Peru down $0.5 million to $0.33 million. Russian Federation down $0.1 million to $2.3 million; Switzerland up $1.4 million to $5.4 million; Saudi Arabia down $1.3 million to $0.6 million; Turkey down $11.5 million to $4.8 million; Residual down $10.2 million to $184.8 million.
