In July 2019, the UK Consumer Price Index including owner-occupiers' housing costs (CPIH) rose by 2.0 per cent from July 2018.  This is up from the previous month, when year-over-year inflation was 1.9 per cent.  The largest upward contributions to the 12-month rate came from housing/household services, recreation/culture, and restaurants/hotels.

Year-over-year growth in the Consumer Price Index excluding owner occupiers' housing costs (CPI) was 2.1 per cent, up from 2.0 in June 2019.

UK inflation has been more volatile than inflation in Canada.  Over the last couple of years, UK prices rose substantially faster than those in Canada, but through most of 2018, price growth was similar for the two countries. In the first months of 2019 Canada's inflation was lower than that of the UK, but Canadian consumer prices are currently growing at about the same year-over-year pace as those in the UK.
