US CONSTRUCTION SPENDING, APRIL 2019

In April 2019, US construction spending (seasonally adjusted) was virtually unchanged at $1,299 billion. This follows a revised gain of 0.1 per cent reported in March 2019, when construction spending totaled $1,299 billion. Year-over-year, US construction spending is 1.2 per cent below April 2018.

  • Private sector construction decreased 1.7 per cent in April to $954 billion.  This is down 6.0 per cent over April 2018.
  • Public sector construction rose 4.8 per cent in April to $345 billion.  This is up 15.1 per cent over April 2018
  • Residential construction decreased 0.5 per cent in April to $506 billion.  This is down 11.2 per cent over April 2018. 
  • Non-residential construction increased 0.3 per cent in April to $793 billion.  This is up 6.4 per cent over April 2018.

Year-to-date, US construction spending is down 0.2 per cent over Jan-Apr18.

  • Private sector construction decreased 3.7 per cent
  • Public sector construction increased 11.7 per cent
  • Residential construction declined by 8.5 per cent
  • Non-residential construction grew by 6.2 per cent
