In the period 2010 to 2018, Nova Scotia exported between $3.9 billion and $5.4 billion worth of goods to the global market. In this period, the number of exporting establishments ranged from 933 (2010) to a low of 921 (2013) to a hight of 1017 (2018), and the average value of exports per exporting establishment ranged from $4.3 million (2010) to a low of $$4.2 billion (2012) to a high of $5.33 billion (2015) and $5.3 million (2018).
In 2018, the average value of exports per exporting establishment was $5.3 million. The value of exports increased 10.7% to $5.4 billion and the number of exporters increased 4.8% to 1,017.
Canada and the Provinces
In Canada 2018, the average value of exports per exporting establishment was $10.4 million. Among the provinces, Alberta recorded the highest average export value per exporting establishment at$23.0 million.
In Canada 2018, the number of exporting establishment increased 1,793 to 50,247. Ontario has the largest number of exporting establishments at 21,480.

Nova Scotia
In Nova Scotia 2018, in twenty industrial sectors, 1,017 exporting establishments exported a total of $5.4 billion worth of goods into the international market. The sector with the largest share of total exports ($3.7 billion or 69.0% share) was Manufacturing, the highest average exports per exporting establishment ($13.1 million) was the Manufacturing industry, and the largest number of exporting establishments (284) was the Manufacturing industry. In 2018, the value of the Manufacturing industry increased 14.5% and the number of exporting establishments decreased 3.1% over the previous year.
The Wholesale is the second largest industry in terms of exporting value ($1.0 billion or 18.7% share) of total exports and the average export value per exporter at $3.9 million per exporting establishment.
Nova Scotia Manufacturing
By its dominance of the exporting sector, Manufacturing industry justifies a closer look at its subsectors. With a 43.2% share of total manufacturing exports in 2018, the Plastics and Rubber industry is the largest subsector.
In 2018, Plastics, Rubber exports increased 4.8 over 2017 to $1.6 million. and the number of exporting establishments increased to 24. The average value of exports per exporting establishments was highest at $67.0 million.
Definition: "An enterprise is defined as the statistical unit that directs and controls the allocation of resources relating to its domestic operations, and for which consolidated financial statements are maintained. An establishment is defined as the statistical unit where the accounting data required to measure production is available.
