LABOUR FORCE SURVEY - APRIL 2019

In Nova Scotia April 2019, (seasonally-adjusted, month-over-month and year-over-year):

  • Labour Force increased 0.3 per cent (1,600) from March 2019 to 498,800 and increased 1.7 per cent  (8,200) over April 2018.
  • Employment decreased 0.5 per cent (-2,100) from March 2019 to 464,400 and increased 1.6 per cent (7,500) over April 2018.
  • Unemployment increased 12.1 per cent (3,700) from March 2019 to 34,400 and increased 2.1 per cent (700) over April 2018.
  • Unemployment rate increased 0.7 percentage points from March 2019 to 6.9 per cent.

 

In Canada April 2019, (seasonally-adjusted, month-over-month and year-over-year):

  • Labour Force increased 0.5 per cent (108,100) from March 2019 to 20,187,800 and increased 2.1 per cent (422,400) over April 2018.
  • Employment increased 0.6 per cent (106,500) from March 2019 to 19,029,100 and increased 2.3 per cent (426,400) over April 2018.
  • Unemployment increased 0.1 per cent (1,500) from March 2019 to 1,158,700 and decreased 0.3 per cent (-3,900) over April 2018.
  • Unemployment rate decreased 0.1 percentage points from March 2019 to 5.7 per cent.

 

In Halifax April 2019, (3 month moving average, seasonally-adjusted):

  • Labour Force remains virtually unchanged (-100) from March 2019 at 249,700 and increased 0.4% (900) over April 2018.
  • Employment decreased 0.3% (-700) from March 2019 to 237,000 and increased 1.0% (2,300) over April 2018.
  • Unemployment increased 4.1% (500) from March 2019 to 12,700 and decreased 9.9% (-1,400) over April 2018.
  • Unemployment rate increased 0.2 percentage points from March 2019 to 5.1%.
