May 10, 2019US CONSUMER PRICE INDEX, APRIL 2019 The US Consumer Price Index (all urban consumers, seasonally adjusted) was up 0.3 per cent in April, generating year-over-year inflation of 2.0 per cent. US inflation has rebounded after slowing in January and February.
Volatile energy prices accounts for much of the variation in US inflation. In April, year-over-year energy price inflation turned positive at 1.7 per cent. Over the same time, food price inflation slowed to 1.8 per cent while inflation for all items outside food and energy was 2.1 per cent.
US inflation (year-over-year) was similar to price growth observed in Canada and Nova Scotia throughout much of 2018.
