CANADA INTERNATIONAL MERCHANDISE TRADE, MARCH 2019

In March 2019, the Canadian merchandise trade (balance of payment basis, seasonally adjusted), deficit was $3.2 billion. Exports are up 3.2 per cent to $49.0 billion over February 2019, and are up 1.8 per cent over March 2018. Imports are up 2.5 per cent to $52.3 billion over February 2019, and are up 1.1 per cent over March 2018. 

YEAR-TO-DATE

In the first quarter of 2019, the year-to-date Canadian merchandise trade deficit reached $10.4 billion. Year-to-date goods Exports were valued at $144.7 billion and year-to-date goods Imports were valued at $155.1 billion.

 

TRADE PARTNERS

In March 2019, the Canadian merchandise trade (balance of payment basis, seasonally adjusted) surplus with the United States widened to $3.6 billion.

In March 2019, the Canadian merchandise trade (balance of payment basis, seasonally adjusted) deficit with China widened to $2.3 billion.

In March 2019, the Canadian merchandise trade (balance of payment basis, seasonally adjusted) deficit with the European Union narrowed to $1.4 billion.
