April 10, 2019US CONSUMER PRICE INDEX, MARCH 2019 The US Consumer Price Index (all urban consumers) was up 0.4 per cent in March, generating year-over-year inflation of 1.9 per cent. US inflation has rebounded after slowing in January and February.
Volatile energy prices accounts for much of the variation in US inflation. In March, year-over-year energy price declines slowed to -0.4 per cent. At the same time, food price inflation rose to 2.1 per cent while inflation for all items outside food and energy was 2.0 per cent.
US inflation (year-over-year) was similar to price growth observed in Canada and Nova Scotia throughout much of 2018. The US inflation rate for March is notably faster than Canadian inflation in February.
