LABOUR FORCE SURVEY - MARCH 2019

In Nova Scotia March 2019, (seasonally-adjusted, month-over-month and year-over-year):

  • Labour Force decreased 0.3 per cent (-1,300) from February 2019 to 497,200 and increased 1.2 per cent (6,100) over March 2018.
  • Employment remains unchanged (0) from February 2019 at 466,500 and increased 2.6 per cent (11,800) over March 2018.
  • Unemployment decreased 4.4 per cent (-1,400) from February 2019 to 30,700 and decreased 15.7 per cent (-5,700) over March 2018.
  • Unemployment rate decreased 0.2 percentage points from February 2019 to 6.2 per cent.

 

In Canada March 2019, (seasonally-adjusted, month-over-month and year-over-year):

  • Labour Force decreased 0.1 per cent (-11,300) from February 2019 to 20,079,700 and increased 1.7 per cent (339,400) over March 2018.
  • Employment remains virtually unchanged (-7,200) from February 2019 at 18,922,600 and increased 1.8 per cent (331,600) over March 2018.
  • Unemployment decreased 0.4 per cent (-4,100) from February 2019 to 1,157,200 and increased 0.7 per cent (8,000) over March 2018.
  • Unemployment rate remains virtually unchanged from February 2019 at 5.8 per cent.

 

In Halifax March 2019, (3 month moving average, seasonally-adjusted):

  • Labour Force remains unchanged (0) from February 2019 at 249,800 and increased 0.8 per cent (2,100) over March 2018.
  • Employment remains virtually unchanged (100) from February 2019 at 237,700 and increased 2.1 per cent (5,000) over March 2018.
  • Unemployment remains unchanged (0) from February 2019 at 12,200 and decreased 18.7 per cent (-2,800) over March 2018.
  • Unemployment rate remains unchanged from February 2019 at 4.9%.
