US CONSTRUCTION SPENDING, FEBRUARY 2019

In February 2019, US construction spending (seasonally adjusted annual rate) increased 1.0 per cent to $1,320 billion. This follows a revised gain of 0.1 per cent reported in January 2019, when construction spending totaled $1,307 billion. Year-over-year, spending is 1.1 per cent above February 2018.

Private sector construction increased 0.2 per cent month-to-month to $995 billion, and is down 1.9 per cent over February 2018. Public sector construction increased 3.6 per cent to $326 billion in February 2019, and is up 11.5 per cent over February 2018.

Month-to-month US residential construction increased 0.7 per cent to $547 billion, and is down 3.6 per cent over February 2018. Non-residential construction spending increased 1.2 per cent to $774 billion, and is up 4.8 per cent over February 2018.

In the first two months of the year, total construction spending (unadjusted) is up 1.4 per cent over the same period in 2018.  Non-residential construction spending is up 4.3 per cent while residential is down 2.7 per cent.  Private spending is down 0.6 per cent in the first two months of 2019, while public spending is up 8.9 per cent.
