In Nova Scotia November 2018, seasonally adjusted Retail Trade decreased 5.4 per cent over October 2018 to $1.3 billion and in Nov 2018 vs Nov 2017, seasonally adjusted Retail Trade decreased 6.4 per cent.
Nationally, November 2018, seasonally adjusted Retail Trade decreased 0.9 per cent over October 2018 to $50.4 billion and in Nov 2018 vs Nov 2017, seasonally adjusted Retail Trade increased 0.5 per cent.
Canada and the Provinces
On a month over month basis, seasonally adjusted Retail Trade decreased 0.9 per cent nationally. Two provinces reported monthly increases in retail trade, with Alberta (1.9 per cent) reporting the largest gain. Nova Scotia reported the largest decline (5.4 per cent).
On a year over year basis, seasonally adjusted Retail Trade increased 0.5 per cent nationally. Four provinces reported year-over-year increases in retail trade, with Ontario (2.4 per cent) reporting the largest gain. Nova Scotia reported the largest decline (6.4 per cent).
On a year to date basis, seasonally adjusted Retail Trade increased 2.8 per cent nationally. Eight provinces reported year-over-year increases in retail trade, with Prince Edward Island (4.1 per cent) reporting the largest gain. Nova Scotia reported an increase (1.6 per cent) over the same period last year. Newfoundland and Labrador reported the largest decline (2.3 per cent).
Nova Scotia Sectors
Unadjusted year-to-date (Jan-Nov 2018), Retail Trade increased 1.6 per cent ($233.7 million) over Jan-Nov 2017 to $14.6 billion.
- Motor Vehicle with a 27% share of Retail Trade decreased 7.9 per cent ($337.2 million).
- Furniture with a 2% share increased 17.9 per cent ($54.7 million).
- Electronics with a 1% share increased 6.6 per cent ($11.0 million).
- Building Material with a 7% share increased 5.8 per cent ($59.3 million).
- Food & Beverage with a 21% share increased 3.7 per cent ($112.6 million).
- Health with an 8% share increased 1.4 per cent ($15.4 million).
- Gas Stations with a 14% share increased 9.7 per cent ($177.2 million).
- Clothing with a 4% share increased 3.2 per cent ($15.8 million).
- Sporting & Hobbies with a 2% share increased 0.5 per cent ($1.2 million).
- General Merchandise with a 11% share increased 0.7 per cent ($11.0 million).
- Misc. Stores with a 3% share increased 41.1 per cent ($112.7 million).
E-Commerce
In Canada November 2018, on a month-over-month basis, unadjusted retail e-commerce sales increased 40.8 per cent over October 2018 to $2.3 billion, representing a 4.2% share of total retail trade.
On a year-over-year basis, unadjusted retail e-commerce sales increased 20.1 per cent over November 2017.
On a year-to-date basis (Jan-Nov 2018), unadjusted retail e-commerce sales increased 16.0 per cent over Jan-Nov 2017 to $16.0 billion, representing a 2.9% share of total retail trade.
