MANUFACTURING SHIPMENTS, NOVEMBER 2018

NOVA SCOTIA

Month-over-month

In Nova Scotia November 2018, seasonally adjusted Manufacturing Shipments decreased 1.8% to $751.9 million over October 2018 and increased 0.5% over November 2017.

 

Year-to-date

In Nova Scotia Jan-Nov 2018, seasonally adjusted Manufacturing Shipments increased 10.0% ($757.3 million) to $8.3 billion.

Non-durable goods shipments, accounting for 70% of Manufacturing Shipments, increased 14.2% ($720.6 million) to $5.8 billion.

Durable manufacturing, accounting for 30% of Manufacturing Shipments, increased 1.5% ($36.7 million) to $2.5 billion.

 

  

CANADA

In Canada November 2018, seasonally adjusted Manufacturing Shipments decreased 1.4% to $57.3 billion over October 2018 and increased 2.7% over November 2017.

Compared to October 2018, overall sales decreased in 13 of 21 industries representing 45.3% of all manufacturing sectors. Durable goods increased 0.5% to $30.1 billion over Oct 2018 and increased 1.9% over November 2017. Non-durable goods decreased 3.4% to $27.2 billion over Oct 2018 and increased 3.7% over November 2017.

Inventory to sales ratio increased to 1.47 in November.  

Unfilled orders increased for the second consecutive month with an increase of 0.3% to $96.6 billion mostly due to the aerospace product and parts industry. Unfilled orders were also up in the computer and electronic product and fabricated metal product industries.

New orders decreased 2.9% to $57.6 billion over October 2018.

PROVINCES

On a seasonally adjusted, month-over-month basis, Manufacturing sales increased in 4 provinces in November 2018 over October 2018. Newfoundland and Labrador had the largest growth at 5.2%. New Brunswick shipment growth decreased 25.9%. Nova Scotia shipments decreased 1.8%. In Canada shipments decreased 1.4%.

On a seasonally adjusted year-over-year basis, Manufacturing sales increased in 7 provinces in November 2018 over November 2017. Saskatchewan had the largest growth at 10.7%. New Brunswick shipment growth decreased 28.0%. Nova Scotia shipments increased 0.5%. In Canada shipments increased 2.7%.

On a seasonally adjusted, year-to-date basis, Manufacturing sales increased in all provinces in Jan-Nov 2018. Newfoundland and Labrador had the largest growth at 16.4%. New Brunswick shipment growth only increased 2.2%. Nova Scotia shipments increased 10.0%. In Canada shipments increased 5.8%.

YEAR-TO-DATE UNADJUSTED DATA

On an unadjusted year-to-date basis, manufacturing shipments growth was positive in all provinces. In Canada shipments increased 5.8%. Nova Scotia shipments increased 9.5%.
