US TRADE BALANCE, SEPTEMBER 2018

In September 2018, US Goods and Services trade deficit widened by $0.7 billion to $54.0 billion. The goods trade deficit widened by $0.6 billion to $77.2 billion and the services trade surplus declined by $0.1 billion to $23.2 billion.

On a year-to-date basis, the US trade deficit widened by $40.7 billion to $445.2 billion. The goods trade deficit widened by $55.9 billion to $651.0 billion while the services trade surplus narrowed by $15.1 billion to $205.8 billion.

Monthly exports increased by $3.1 billion to $212.6 billion, as goods exports increased by $2.9 billion to $142 billion and services exports increased $251 million to $70.7 billion.

US imports were up $3.8 billion to $266.6 billion, reflecting an increase in goods imports of $3.5 billion to $219 billion and an increase in services imports of $371 million to $47.5 billion.
