US CONSTRUCTION SPENDING, SEPTEMBER 2018

In September, US construction spending remained relatively stable at $1,329 billion. This follows a revised increase of 0.8 per cent reported in August, when construction spending totaled $1,329 billion. Year-over-year, spending is 7.2 per cent above September 2017.

Private sector construction increased by 0.3 per cent in September to $1,020 billion, and is up 6.1 per cent over September of last year. Public sector construction dipped 0.9 per cent to $309.1 billion in September, and is up 11.0 per cent year-over-year. 

US residential construction increased 0.5 per cent month-to-month to $562.3 billion, and is up 4.9 per cent over September 2017. Non-residential construction spending decreased 0.3 per cent to $767.1 billion in September, and increased 8.9 per cent year-over-year. 

In the first nine months of 2018, US construction spending (unadjusted) is up 5.5 per cent over the same period in 2017. Residential construction grew by 6.3 per cent, while non-residential grew by 5.0 per cent. Private sector construction increased by 5.1 per cent and public sector construction increased 7.0 per cent, compared to the first nine months of 2017.
