JAPAN CPI INFLATION, SEPTEMBER 2018

Japan's CPI inflation (year-over-year) edged down slightly to 1.2 per cent in September.  Energy price growth rose to 8.1 per cent while food price growth slowed to 1.7 per cent.  Underlying inflation remains muted at 0.3 per cent for all items excluding fresh food and energy.

Although Japan's inflation continues to rise, it remains slower than price growth in most advanced economies.  September year-over-year inflation slowed in Canada (particularly in Nova Scotia), narrowing the gap over Japan's inflation.
