US TRADE BALANCE, AUGUST 2018

In August 2018, US Goods and Services trade deficit widened by $3.2 billion to $53.2 billion. The goods trade deficit widened by $3.6 billion. to $76.7 billion. The services trade surplus narrowed by $0.4 billion to $23.5 billion.

On a year-to-date basis, the US trade deficit widened by $31.0 billion. to $391.1 billion.The goods trade deficit widened by $44.6 billion. to $573.9 billion. The services trade surplus narrowed by $13.6 billion. to $182.8 billion.

 

Monthly exports declined by $1.7 billion to $209.4 billion, with a $1.9 billion decline to $139 billion in goods exports and a $242 million increase to $70.5 billion in services exports.

US imports were up $1.5 billion to 262.7 billion, reflecting a $1.7 billion increase to $216 billion in goods imports and a $145 million decrease to $47.0 billion in services imports.
