August 03, 2018EU AND EURO AREA RETAIL TRADE, JUNE 2018
Retail sales in the European Union were up 0.4 per cent in June (seasonally adjusted index of turnover value) compared with May. For the Euro Area, retail sales were up 0.7 per cent.
On a year-to-date basis comparing retail sales in January-June 2018 with the same months of 2017, EU retail sales values (seasonally and calendar adjusted - not deflated) are up 3.5 per cent. Euro Area retail sales are up 2.8 per cent year-to-date.
By member state, the strongest year-to-date retail sales growth is reported among Eastern European countries such as Romania, Hungary, Latvia, Poland, Slovakia, Bulgaria and the Czech Republic. Retail sales have grown more slowly in Italy, Greece, Belgium, Denmark and Spain.

By retail sector, the strongest growth (Jan-Jun18 vs Jan-Jun17) is found in mail order and internet sales, followed by automotive fuel suppliers and pharmaceutical, medical and cosmetics retailers.
