US CONSTRUCTION SPENDING, JUNE 2018

In June, US construction spending declined 1.1 per cent to 1,317 billion. This follows a revised gain of 1.3 per cent reported in May, when construction spending totaled $1,332 billion. Year-over-year, spending is 6.1 per cent above June 2017.

Private sector construction decreased by 0.4 per cent in June to $1,020 billion, and is up 6.5 per cent over June of last year. Public sector construction decreased 3.5 per cent to $297 billion in June, and is up 4.9 per cent year-over-year. 

US residential construction declined 0.5 per cent month-to-month to $575 billion, and is up 8.7 per cent over June 2017. Non-residential construction spending declined 1.6 per cent to $742 billion in June, and increased 4.2 per cent year-over-year. 

In the first half of 2018, US construction spending is up 5.0 per cent over the same period in 2017. Residential construction grew by 7.9 per cent, while non-residential grew by 2.9 per cent. Private sector construction increased by 5.1 per cent and public sector construction increased 4.5 per cent, compared to the first six months of 2017.
