EURO AREA TRADE BALANCE IN GOODS, MAY 2018

EURO AREA

In May 2018, the Euro Area (EA19) Goods Trade (not seasonally adjusted) with the rest of the world recorded a surplus of €16.5 billion.

The Euro Area (EA19) Export Trade decreased 1.6 billion € (-0.9%) to €189.6 billion over May 2017.

The Euro Area (EA19) Import Trade increased 1.2 billion € (0.7%) to €173.1 billion over May 2017.

In Jan-May 2018, it was also reported that intra-euro area trade increased 4.8% to €808 billion over Jan-May 2017.

In May 2018, the Euro Area (EA19) Goods Trade (not seasonally adjusted) with Canada recorded a surplus of €1.2 billion.

In May 2018, the Euro Area (EA19) Goods Trade (not seasonally adjusted) with the United States recorded a surplus of €8.6 billion.

In May 2018, EA19 goods trade with the rest of the EU recorded a surplus of EA19 goods trade €12.2 billion as exports rose to €64.5 billion and imports rose to €52.3 billion.

EUROPEAN UNION

In May 2018, the European Union (EU28) Goods Trade (not seasonally adjusted) with the rest of the world recorded a surplus of €0.2 billion.

The European Union (EU28) Export Trade decreased 4.4 billion € (-2.7%) to €160.9 billion over May 2017.

The European Union (EU28) Import Trade decreased 2.3 billion € (-1.4%) to €160.7 billion over May 2017.

Comparing the first five months of 2018 with the same period in 2017, EU28 exports to the rest of the world were up 1.7 per cent to €795.7 billion while imports grew 1.5 per cent to €786.6 billion.  In Jan-May 2018, it was also reported that intra-EU28 trade increased 4.6% to €1,457.3 billion over Jan-May 2017.

In May 2018, the European Union (EU28) Goods Trade (not seasonally adjusted) with Canada recorded a surplus of €1.5 billion.

In May 2018, the European Union (EU28) Goods Trade (not seasonally adjusted) with the United States recorded a surplus of €9.4 billion.
