July 12, 2018US CONSUMER PRICE INDEX, JUNE 2018 The US Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers increased 0.1 per cent in June from May, on a seasonally adjusted basis. This month, the indexes for shelter, gasoline and food were the largest contributors to the rise in the all items index, with gasoline up 0.5 per cent, food up 0.2 per cent, and shelter rising 0.1 per cent.
Year over year (June 2018 compared to June 2017) consumer prices were up 2.9 per cent (not seasonally adjusted) as food prices were up 1.4 per cent and energy prices were up 12.0 per cent, reflecting strong price gains in fuel oil (30.8%), and gasoline (24.3%). The all items less food and energy index rose 2.3 per cent, year over year.
