EURO AREA TRADE BALANCE IN GOODS, APRIL 2018

EURO AREA

In April 2018, the Euro Area (EA19) Goods Trade (not seasonally adjusted) with the rest of the world recorded a surplus of €16.7 billion.

The Euro Area (EA19) Export Trade increased €13.6 billion (8%) to €182.9 billion over April 2017.  The Euro Area (EA19) Import Trade increased €12.5 billion (8.1%) to €166.2 billion over April 2017.

Year-to-date (Jan-Apr18 vs Jan-Apr17) exports are up 3.8 per cent to €738.2 billion while year-to-date imports are up 3.2 per cent to €673.8 billion.  In Jan-Apr 2018, it was also reported that intra-Euro Area trade increased 9.8 per cent to €314.0 billion.

In April 2018, EA19 goods trade (not seasonally adjusted) with Canada recorded a surplus of €1.0 billion.  The Euro Area shipped €2.4 billion in exports to Canada while receiving €1.4 billion in goods imported from Canada.

In April 2018, EA19 goods trade (not seasonally adjusted) with the United States recorded a surplus of €9.1 billion.  The Euro Area shipped €24.8 billion in exports to the US and received €15.7 billion in imports from the US.

In April 2018, EA19 goods trade with the rest of the EU recorded a surplus of EA19 goods trade €11.6 billion as exports fell to €61.3 billion while imports declined to €49.7 billion.

EUROPEAN UNION

In April 2018, the European Union (EU28) goods trade (not seasonally adjusted) with the rest of the world recorded a deficit of €1.0 billion.

EU28 export Trade increased €9.9 billion (6.8%) to €154.8 billion over April 2017.  EU28 imports increased €9.6 billion (6.6%) to €155.9 billion over April 2017.

Comparing the first four months of 2018 with the same period in 2017, EU28 exports to the rest of the world were up 2.7 per cent to €625.7 billion while imports grew 2.3 per cent to €634 billion.  In Jan-Apr 2018, it was also reported that intra-EU28 trade increased 6.6% to €567.2 billion over Jan-Apr 2017.

In April 2018, EU28 goods trade (not seasonally adjusted) with Canada recorded a surplus of €0.7 billion on exports of €3.2 billion and imports of €2.5 billion.

In April 2018, EU28 goods trade (not seasonally adjusted) with the United States recorded a surplus of €9.6 billion on exports of €31.1 billion and imports of €21.5 billion.
