June 14, 2018US RETAIL SALES, MAY 2018 The US Census Bureau announced today that the advance estimates of U.S retail and food service sales for May 2018 was a seasonally adjusted $502.0 billion, 0.8 per cent higher than April 2018 and 5.9 per cent higher than May 2017.
Retail trade sales increased 0.8 per cent from April, and increased 6.0 per cent over May 2017.
In the first five months of 2018, US retail sales and food services increased 4.8 per cent over Jan-May 2017. Retail trade increased 5.0 per cent while food services and drinking places sales grew by 3.6 per cent. Sales were up in all categories except for sporting and recreation stores. The fastest gains were in gas stations (including the effects of rising oil prices) as well as non-store retailers.
