US CONSUMER PRICE INDEX, MAY 2018

The US Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers increased 0.2 per cent in May from April, a seasonally adjusted basis. This month, the indexes for gasoline and shelter were the largest contributors to the rise in the all items index, with gasoline up 1.7 per cent, and shelter rising 0.3 per cent. Food prices were flat this month.   

Year over year (May 2018 compared to May 2017) consumer prices were up 2.8 per cent (not seasonally adjusted) as food prices were up 1.2 per cent and energy prices were up 11.7 per cent, reflecting strong price gains in fuel oil (25.3%), and gasoline (21.7%). The all items less food and energy index rose 2.2 per cent, year over year.
