June 11, 2018UK TRADE BALANCE APRIL 2018
In April 2018,
- the UK seasonally adjusted goods and services balance of trade deficit increased by £2.03 billion to £5.3 billion
- the main contributor to the increased deficit was the 3.2% (£1.7 billion) decline in exports of goods to £26.9 billion.
In April 2018, goods exports decreased £1.694 billion to £26.9 billion while goods imports increased £0.3 billion to £40.9 billion. The resulting goods deficit widened to £14.0 billion.
In April 2018, services exports increased £42 million to £23.1 billion and services imports decreased £70 million to £14.4 billion. The resulting services surplus decreased slightly to £8.8 billion.
Trade with Canada
In April 2018, goods exports to Canada increased slightly (£3 million) to £466 million, while imports from Canada increased by a sizable £534 million, to £1,104 million - the largest imports since January 2015 (also an extraordinary monthly change). The resulting UK balance of goods trade with Canada changed to a deficit of £548 million.
Trade with EU and nonEU Countries
In April 2018, goods exports with European Union countries (EU28) fell £355 million to £13.8 billion, and goods imports from EU28 countries rose £93 million to £22.5 billion The resulting goods deficit with EU28 countries increased £448 million to £8.7 billion.
In April 2018, goods exports with non-European Union countries decreased £1,339 million to £13.1 billion, and goods imports from non-EU28 countries increased £245 million to £18.4 billion. The resulting goods deficit with non-EU28 countries increased £1.6 billion to £5.4 billion.
