US CONSTRUCTION SPENDING, APRIL 2018

In April, US construction spending increased 1.8 per cent to $1,310 billion. This follows a revised loss of 1.7 per cent reported in March, when construction spending totaled $1,287 billion. Year-over-year, spending is 7.6 per cent above April 2017.

Private sector construction rose by 2.8 per cent to $1,014 billion, up 7.6 per cent over April 2017. Public sector construction declined 1.3 per cent to $296 billion in April, and is up 7.7 per cent year-over-year. 

US residential construction increased 4.4 per cent month-to-month to $563 billion, and is up 9.7 per cent over April 2017. Non-residential construction spending was $747 billion in April, level with the previous month and up 6.1 per cent year-over-year. 

In the first four months of 2018, US construction spending is up 5.8 per cent over the same period in 2017. Residential construction grew by 8.4 per cent, while non-residential grew by 3.9 per cent. Private sector construction grew 5.8 per cent in the first four months of the year, and public sector construction grew by 5.6 per cent.
