CANADA'S BALANCE OF INTERNATIONAL PAYMENTS 2018Q1

 1st Quarter

 

In Canada Q1 2018, the seasonally adjusted current account deficit increased $3.0 billion to  $19.5 billion over Q4 2017.

                                                                     

In Q1 2018,

  • exports (receipts) goods and services increased $2.3 billion to $168.8 billion, while imports (payments) goods and services increased $3.5 billion to $183.9 billion. The resulting international goods and services trade deficit increased $1.2 billion to $15.2 billion over Q4 2017.
  • primary income receipts decreased $1.5 billion to $29.8 billion, while primary income payments increased $384 million to $183.9 billion. The resulting international primary income trade deficit increased $1.9 billion to $3.8 billion over Q4 2017.
  • secondary income receipts increased $244 million to $3.4 billion, while secondary income payments increased $101 million to $4.0 billion. The resulting international secondary income trade deficit decreased $143 million to $586 million over Q4 2017.
  • with trade deficit increasing ($1.2 billion); primary income deficit increasing ($1.9 billion); and secondary income deficit decreasing ($143 million), the current account deficit increased by $3.0 billion to $19.5 billion.
