EU AND EURO AREA CONSUMER PRICE INFLATION, APRIL 2018

In April, inflation was 1.4 per cent in the European Union (down from 1.5 per cent in March) and 1.2 per cent in the Euro Area (down from 1.3 per cent last month). Inflation in both Canada and Nova Scotia also rose in the latest year-over-year results for March.

Among member states, the fastest year-over-year inflation was reported in Romania, Slovakia, and Estonia.  The lowest inflation was reported in Cyprus, Ireland, and Portugal.

In April, the highest contribution to euro area inflation came from food, alcohol and tobacco, followed by services, energy, and non-energy industrial goods.
