TERANET-NATIONAL BANK HOUSE PRICE INDEX, APRIL 2018

Halifax home prices as measured by the Teranet-National Bank House Price were up 0.6 per cent in April 2018 over the previous month. The Halifax price level was up 5.3 per cent over April 2017. The national year-over-year price gain slowed to 5.6 per cent in April.                                                         

National resale home prices measured by the Teranet-National Bank House Price Index edged up 0.2 per cent month-to-month, with 8 of the 11 cities reporting higher prices in April. Resale home prices declined in Winnipeg and Ottawa-Gatineau, while prices in Calgary were level with the previous month.

Year-over-year, resale home prices are up 5.6 per cent for the 11-city composite of the Teranet-National Bank House Price Index.  The largest increases were reported in Vancouver, Victoria, Halifax, and Hamilton. 

Comparing the first four months of 2018 with the same months last year, resale home prices were up 7.1% for the 11-city composite of the Teranet-National Bank House Price Index. The strongest gains were seen in Vancouver, Victoria, Hamilton and Toronto. Montreal and Halifax also reported notable increases compared to the first four months of 2017.
