UK import and export trade is a main contributor to the overall economic growth of the UK.
In March 2018,
- the UK seasonally adjusted goods and services balance of trade deficit increased by £1.18 billion to £3.1 billion from February 2018;
- the main contributor to the increased deficit was the 5.8% (£3.1 billion) increase in imports of trade in goods and services to £56 billion.
In March 2018, goods exports increased £1.231 billion to £28.9 billion while goods imports increased £3.1 billion to £41.2 billion. The resulting goods deficit increased to £12.3 billion.
In March 2018, services exports decreased £92 million to £24.0 billion and services imports decreased £50 million to £14.8 billion. The resulting services surplus decreased to £9.2 billion.
Trade with Canada
In March 2018, goods and services exports with Canada increased £15 million to £463 million, and goods and services imports from Canada decreased £50 million, to £402 million. The resulting goods balance of trade changed to a surplus of £61 million.
Trade with EU and nonEU Countries
In March 2018, goods exports with European Union countries (EU28) increased £668 million to £14.4 billion, and goods imports from EU28 countries decreased £1.254 billion to £23.0 billion The resulting goods deficit with EU28 countries increased £586 million to £8.6 billion.
In March 2018, goods exports with non-European Union countries increased £563 million to £14.5 billion, and goods imports from non-EU28 countries increased £1.8 billion to £18.2 billion. The resulting goods deficit with non-EU28 countries increased £1.3 billion to £3.6 billion.
