CROWDSOURCED CANNABIS PRICES, MARCH 2018

In March, the average price of cannabis per gram was $7.25 in Halifax, according to information submitted to Statistics Canada. Statistics Canada collects price and use data on cannabis through a crowdsourcing application, StatsCannabis.

Halifax's price per gram was above the national average of $6.78. The highest price per gram was in Toronto ($7.93) while the lowest was in Quebec ($5.93).

In Halifax, 54.6 per cent of respondents reported using cannabis recreationally, while 32.6 per cent were using cannabis to medicate without a medical document. The smallest share of users were medicating with a medical document (12.8 per cent). Nationally, 63.2 per cent of respondents reported using cannabis recreationally, with 26.2 percent and 10.7 percent medicating with and without medical documents, respectively. The highest proportion of recreational users were in Quebec (86.4 per cent), while the lowest proportion was in Victoria (49.5 per cent). 

In Halifax, 51.2 per cent of respondents reported using cannabis daily. Another 18.6 per cent reported using cannabis a few times per week. Nationally, 52.1 per cent of respondents reported using cannabis daily. The highest proportion of daily users was in Edmonton (59.0 per cent) while the lowest was in Quebec (41.7 per cent).

 

Cannabis consumption data reported through StatsCannabis is self-reported should be interpreted with caution. As the data sample is self-selected, it is subject to statistical bias and not necessarily representative of the larger population.
