UK import and export trade is a main contributor to the overall economic growth of the UK.
In February 2018,
- the UK seasonally adjusted goods and services balance of trade deficit decreased by £1.98 billion to £0.97 billion from January 2018;
- the main contributor to the decreased deficit was the 4.8% (£2.7 billion) decrease in imports of trade in goods and services to £53.4 billion.
In February 2018, goods exports decreased £645 million to £28.3 billion while goods imports decreased £2.67 billion to £38.6 billion. The resulting goods deficit decreased to £10.2 billion.
In February 2018, services exports decreased £71 million to £24.1 billion and services imports decreased £30 million to £14.9 billion. The resulting services surplus decreased to £9.2 billion.
Trade with Canada
In February 2018, goods exports with Canada decreased £6 million to £447 million, and goods imports from Canada increased £23 million, to £453 million. The resulting goods balance of trade changed from a surplus of £23 million to a deficit of £6 million.
Trade with EU and nonEU Countries
In February 2018, goods exports with European Union countries (EU28) increased £42 million to £14.4 billion, and goods imports from EU28 countries decreased £183 million to £22.3 billion The resulting goods deficit with EU28 countries decreased £225 million to £8.0 billion.
In February 2018, goods exports with non-European Union countries decreased £687 million to £14.0 billion, and goods imports from non-EU28 countries decreased £2.5 billion to £16.2 billion. The resulting goods deficit with non-EU28 countries decreased £1.8 billion to £2.2 billion.
