LABOUR FORCE SURVEY - MARCH 2018

In Nova Scotia March 2018, (seasonally-adjusted, month-over-month and year-over-year):

  • Labour force decreased 0.8% (-3,900) from February 2018 to 491,400 and decreased 0.1% (-400) over March 2017.
  • Employment decreased 0.3% (-1,300) from February 2018 to 455,000 and increased 1.2% (5,300) over March 2017.
  • Unemployment decreased 6.7% (-2,600) from February 2018 to 36,400 and decreased 13.3% (-5,600) over March 2017.
  • Unemployment rate decreased 0.5 percentage points from February 2018 to 7.4%.

 

In Canada March 2018, (seasonally-adjusted, month-over-month and year-over-year):           

  • Labour force increased 0.2% (30,100) from February 2018 to 19,746,900 and increased 0.7% (138,500) over March 2017.
  • Employment increased 0.2% (32,300) from February 2018 to 18,604,800 and increased 1.6% (296,200) over March 2017.
  • Unemployment decreased 0.2% (-2,200) from February 2018 to 1,142,100 and decreased 12.1% (-157,700) over March 2017.
  • Unemployment rate remains virtually unchanged from February 2018 at 5.8%.

 

In Halifax March 2018, (3 month moving average, seasonally-adjusted):           

  • Labour force increased 0.8% (1,900) from February 2018 to 247,400 and increased 3.1% (7,400) over March 2017.
  • Employment increased 1.2% (2,700) from February 2018 to 232,500 and increased 3.6% (8,000) over March 2017.
  • Unemployment decreased 5.1% (-800) from February 2018 to 14,900 and decreased 3.9% (-600) over March 2017.
  • Unemployment rate decreased 0.4 percentage points from February 2018 to 6.0%.
