US CONSTRUCTION SPENDING, FEBRUARY 2018

In February, US construction spending edged up 0.1 per cent to $1,273 billion. This follows a revised $1,272 billion reported in January, which was level with the previous month. Year-over-year, spending is 3.0 per cent above February 2017.

Private sector construction led the February gains in total construction spending, up 0.7 per cent over the previous month to $982 billion. Private sector construction is up 3.4 per cent over February 2017. Public sector construction was $291 billion in February, down 2.1 per cent compared to January and up 1.6 per cent year-over-year. 

US residential construction is up 0.1 per cent month-to-month to $540 billion, and is up 5.4 per cent over February 2017. Non-residential construction spending was up 0.1 per cent month-to-month to $733 billion, and up 1.3 per cent year-over-year. 

For the first two months of 2018, US construction spending is up 3.5 per cent over the same period in 2017. Residential construction grew by 5.8 per cent, while non-residential grew by 1.8 per cent. Public sector construction grew 4.4 per cent in the first two months of the year, and private sector construction grew by 3.2 per cent.
