EURO AREA TRADE BALANCE IN GOODS, JANUARY 2018

In January 2018, the euro area (EA19) recorded a €3.3 billion surplus in trade in goods (not seasonally adjusted) with the rest of the world.

The first estimate for EA19 exports of goods to the rest of the world was €178.6 billion, an increase of 9.1 per cent over January 2017. Imports from the rest of the world increased 6.3 per cent to €175.4 billion. It was also reported that intra-euro area trade increased 8.8 per cent to €159.8 billion over January 2017.

In January 2018, the European Union (EU28) recorded a €20.3 billion deficit in trade in goods (not seasonally adjusted) with the rest of the world.

The first estimate for EU28 exports of goods to the rest of the world was €150.5 billion, a 6.5 per cent increase over January 2017. Imports from the rest of the world increased 7.6 per cent to €170.8 billion. It was also reported that intra-EU28 area trade increased 9.0 per cent to €288.2 billion over January 2017.
