TERANET-NATIONAL BANK HOUSE PRICE INDEX, FEBRUARY 2018

Halifax home prices as measured by the Teranet-National Bank House Price were up 0.8 per cent in February over January 2018. The Halifax price level was 5.3 per cent above the same month in 2017 - the highest year-over-year growth since February 2013. The national year-over-year price gain slowed to 7.5 per cent in January.

National resale home prices measured by the Teranet-National Bank House Price Index were down 0.1 per cent in February on a monthly basis, with 7 of the 11 cities reporting lower prices in February. Halifax, Vancouver and Hamilton were the only cities that showed positive gains, while Victoria remained unchanged.

Year-over-year, resale home prices are up 7.5 per cent for the 11-city composite of the Teranet-National Bank House Price Index.  The strongest gains are reported in Ontario and British Columbia, but year-over-year price gains are also reported in Halifax, Montreal, and Winnipeg.  

Comparing the first two months of 2018 with the same months last year, resale home prices were up 8.1% for the 11-city composite of the Teranet-National Bank House Price Index. As with year-over-year results, the strongest gains are seen in British Columbia and Ontario. Montreal, Winnipeg and Halifax also reported increases over the first two months of 2017.
