December 14, 2017US RETAIL SALES, NOVEMBER 2017 Month-over-Month, Year-over-Year
The US Census Bureau announced today that the advance estimates of U.S retail and food service sales for November 2017 was a seasonally adjusted $492.7 billion, 0.8 per cent higher than October 2017 and 5.8 per cent higher than November 2016.
Retail trade sales increased 0.8 per cent from October 2017 and increased 6.3 per cent year over last year. Gasoline Stations were up 2.8% over last month and up 12.2 % from November 2016, while Building Materials and Garden Equipment were up 1.2% over October 2017 and up 10.7% from last year.
Year-to-Date
In Jan-Nov 2017, the United States unadjusted retail sales and food services increased 4.2% ($210.6 billion) over Jan-Nov 2016 to $5.2 trillion. Retail trade increased 4.4% ($194.4) over Jan-Nov 2016 to $4.6 trillion.
- Other Retail Operations (including food services), 28% of total retail trade increased 4.9% or $68.5 billion.
- Motor vehicle sector, 21% of total retail trade increased 4.5% or $46.9 billion.
- Gasoline Stations, 8% of total retail trade increased 8.8% or $33.8 billion.
- Building materials, 7% of total retail trade increased 8.2% or $26.6 billion.
- Food and beverage sector, 13% of total retail trade increased 2.3% or $14.6 billion.
- General merchandise stores, 12% of total retail trade increased 2.1% or $12.6 billion.
- Misc. retail, 2% of total retail trade increased 3.1% or $3.6 billion.
- Furniture stores, 2% of total retail trade increased 4.6% or $4.6 billion.
- Clothing Stores, 4% of total retail trade increased 1.1% or $2.4 billion.
- Electronics stores, 2% of total retail trade decreased 0.3% or $0.3 billion.
- Sports and hobby stores, 1% of total retail trade decreased 3.6% or $2.8 billion.
