LABOUR FORCE SURVEY - NOVEMBER 2017

In Nova Scotia November 2017 (seasonally-adjusted, month-over-month and year-over-year):

  • Labour force increased 0.4% (+2,000) from October 2017 to 492,200 and increased 1.0% (+5,100) over November 2016.
  • Employment increased 0.3% (+1,300) from October  2017 to 448,900 and increased 0.2% (+800) over November 2016.
  • Unemployment increased 1.6% (+700) from October 2017 to 43,300 and increased 11.0% (+4,300) over November 2016.
  • Unemployment rate increased 0.1 percentage points from October 2017 to 8.8%.


In Canada November 2017 (seasonally-adjusted, month-over-month and year-over-year):

  • Labour force remained unchanged  (+500) from October 2017 to 19.7 million and increased 1.1% (+220,300) over November 2016.
  • Employment increased 0.4% (+79,500) from October 2017 to 18.6 million and increased 2.1% (+390,000) over November 2016.
  • Unemployment decreased 6.4% (-78,900) from October 2017 to 1.2 million and decreased 12.8% (-169,700) over November 2016.
  • Unemployment rate decreased 0.4 percentage points from October 2017 to 5.9%.


In Halifax November 2017 (3 month moving average, seasonally-adjusted):

  • Labour force increased 0.3% (+700) from October 2017 to 241,300 and increased 0.4% (+900) over November 2016.
  • Employment increased 0.4% (+1,000) from October 2017 to 223,900 and decreased 1.0% (-2,300) over November 2016.
  • Unemployment decreased 1.7% (-300) from October 2017 to 17,400 and increased 22.5% (+3,200) over November 2016.
  • Unemployment rate decreased 0.2 percentage points from October 2017 to 7.2%.
