Nonfarm business sector labour productivity in the US increased 1.5 per cent (seasonally adjusted annualized rate) in Q2 2017, as output increased 4.0 per cent and hours worked rose 2.5 per cent. Unit labour costs increased 0.2 per cent reflecting the 1.5 per cent increase in productivity and a 1.8 per cent increase in hourly compensation. Unit labour costs have decreased 0.2 per cent over the last four quarters.
Manufacturing sector labour productivity increased 2.9 per cent in Q2 with output increasing 2.1 per cent and hours worked decreasing 0.7 per cent. Productivity was up 3.8 per cent for durable goods, and up 0.5 per cent in the nondurable goods sector. Unit labour costs were down 0.4 per cent in manufacturing.
