Food hygiene (handling) courses that are recognized by the Department of Agriculture as meeting minimum requirements for food handler training and certification.
People who handle and work with food regularly (like people in the food service industry) should take a food hygiene (handling) course.
Food Safety Regulations require that at least 1 person per shift must have successfully completed a food hygiene (handling) course. It’s recommended that everyone working with food take the course. The training must be renewed every 5 years.
Foodservice operators are responsible for making sure that employees have successfully completed a food hygiene (handling) course that’s recognized by the Department of Agriculture. Public health officers will ask operators to show proof that they and their employees hold current certification from a recognized course.
