School Supplies for Families with Children
You will get extra money to pay for school supplies if you are on Income Assistance and have children in school. This money comes once a year, at the beginning of the school year. It is called an 'annual monetary supplement. You can use the money to buy anything your child must have for school. You can buy school supplies, and pay for school fees like the cost of a locker.
The amount is $50 for each child 5 to 12 years old, and $100 for each child 13 years and over. The child must be going to a regular public school. The money is added to the payment that goes out the last week in August.
You do not need to apply. You do need to remind your caseworker in June that you have a child starting school in September.
If you are not yet an Income Assistance client, see our information on How to Apply.
