-----------------------------------------------------------------
Bonita Kirby has been officially appointed chair of the Nova
Scotia Film Development Corp. Kirby, manager of the the Executive
MBA program at Saint Mary's University, has been acting chair of
the film corporation since mid-April.

Ms. Kirby will be playing a lead role in the development of one
of Nova Scotia's most dynamic industries, said Richie Mann,
minister of Economic Development and Tourism.

"Our film industry created more than 420 jobs in the province in
the first quarter of 1997," said the minister. "That's an
impressive record by any standards, and Bonnie Kirby is the right
person to help us build on that."

Ms. Kirby's background includes extensive experience in
international business marketing. The Nova Scotia film industry
is a high quality product with which to work, she said.

"Nova Scotia producers have a great track record," she said. "If
you watch CBC almost any night, you'll see something that is
produced in our province. We're winning national and
international recognition for production at events like the
Gemini Awards and the Cannes International Film Festival."
