ATLANTIC PREMIERS--VICE-CHAIR APPOINTED TO PROCUREMENT GROUP
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The premiers of the Atlantic provinces have confirmed the
appointment of Jacques Roy as the vice-chair of the Atlantic
Procurement Co-ordinating Committee.

Mr. Roy is president of Roy Consulting Group Ltd., an engineering
consulting company in Bathurst, N.B., with experience in the
environmental and municipal fields. He is a board member of
volunteer and professional organizations as well as a director on
the boards of several businesses and economic development bodies.

The positions of chair and vice-chair of the procurement
committee are rotated annually by provincial nomination.

The committee is responsible for promoting co-operation in
government procurement in the Atlantic region and for monitoring
compliance with the Atlantic Procurement Agreement. The committee
ensures that within the scope of the agreement, all suppliers and
contractors in Atlantic Canada are given an equal opportunity to
compete for goods, services and construction projects tendered by
the provincial governments, post-secondary institutions, and
publicly funded school and health boards.

Whenever practical, joint purchases are promoted under the
auspices of the Maritime Purchasing Authority. The committee
identifies and promotes those goods and services that are
unavailable in Atlantic Canada as opportunities for future
development within the region.

The Atlantic Procurement Co-ordinating Committee is a
co-operative initiative of the Conference of Atlantic Premiers.
Annual reports of the committee are available by calling
902-424-7590 or writing to P.O. Box 2044, Halifax, N.S., B3J 2Z1.
