NEWS RELEASE (CNS723) -->> EDUCATION/CULTURE--WORKPLACE
EXPERIENCES PROGRAM FOR EDUCATORS

EDUCATION/CULTURE--WORKPLACE EXPERIENCES PROGRAM FOR EDUCATORS
-----------------------------------------------------------------
A select group of Nova Scotian teachers will be leaving their
classrooms to gain business workplace experience under the
recently launched Workplace Experiences Program for Educators.

In addition to building links between the workplace and schools,
the program is intended to provide teachers with the opportunity
to bring back to their students real, current information on the
workplace.

The Workplace Experiences Program for Educators is a partnership
between the Nova Scotia Teachers Union and the Centre for
Entrepreneurship Education and Development (CEED). The program
was created in response to the need for today's students to
understand the need for life-long learning and adaptation to
change.

Teachers will bring back real-life experience from their week in
a workplace environment of their choice. The experience is
intended to help them assist students to develop relevant
employability skills and attitude, and to make effective career
choices.

The program arranges for a substitute teacher and matches the
participants with businesses in which they have expressed an
interest. Participants will maintain a log of their experiences,
produce an evaluation with the employer and submit a report to
the Centre for Entrepreneurship Education and Development. The
program is limited to 15 placements, beginning in January, 1997.

The deadline for applications has been extended to Nov. 15.
Interested teachers can apply for the program by contacting the
Centre for Entrepreneurship Education and Development at
1-800-590-8481.
