EDUCATION/CULTURE--COMMUNITY COLLEGE PRINCIPALS APPOINTED

  The appointments of Michael Kelly as principal of the newly
  formed Nova Scotia Community College campus in Sydney and
  Joseph Black as principal of the Cumberland Campus in
  Springhill have been announced.
  
  Jack Buckley, chief executive officer of the college, said
  Mr. Kelly will serve as principal of the new comprehensive
  campus for industrial Cape Breton. The campus combines the
  operations of the Sydney Campus, Prince Street,  and the
  Adult Vocational Training Campus-Cape Breton at the AVTC
  site, Glace Bay Highway. The Sydney Campus will close at the
  end of July. 
  
  Mr. Kelly has served as principal of AVTC-Cape Breton and
  prior to joining the college was employed with Enterprise
  Cape Breton Corporation as director of technology and
  innovation. He previously practised as a chartered
  accountant with Doane Raymond Chartered Accountants. He is a
  graduate of St. Francis Xavier University and received his
  MBA from Saint Mary's University.
  
  Mr. Black brings to his new position a background as a
  teacher and administrator. Most recently he has been acting
  principal of the Sydney Campus. Prior to that he served as a
  curriculum consultant in the central office of the college
  after having served as an instructor at the Institute of
  Technology Campus, Halifax. He is a graduate of the
  University College of Cape Breton, St. Francis Xavier
  University and Saint Mary's University where he received his
  master's of education degree. Mr. Black succeeds George
  Laird who recently retired as principal of the Cumberland
  Campus.
  
  "Mr. Kelly and Mr. Black bring  strong backgrounds in
  industry and college administration to their new
  appointments. This is particularly important as the college
  prepares to assume self-governance this year and in meeting
  our commitment to support the  training needs of the
  community, business, industry and government," Mr. Buckley
  said.
