HEALTH--AMBULANCE SERVICE EXTENDED FOR PICTOU AREA
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Dort's Ambulance Service, originally scheduled to cease
service in the Pictou area Jan. 31, 1995 has agreed to
continue operations until March 31, 1995.

This will allow the Department of Health additional time to
arrange for a new ambulance operator in the area.

"We are very pleased that Dort's has agreed to remain in
operation for the extra two months," said Health Minister Ron
Stewart. "Ensuring reasonable access to ambulance service is
important to the health and safety of Pictou area residents."

The minister acknowledged the co-operation and support of
the Ambulance Operators' Association throughout discussions.

Dort's Ambulance Service in New Glasgow provides service to
both New Glasgow and Pictou. About a month ago the company
notified the Department of Health of its intention to scale back
its operation to New Glasgow only.
