Procurement Policy

Click here for the Province of Nova Scotia Sustainable Procurement Policy.

This is the only policy for procurement by governement departments, agencies, boards and commissions.

The province of Nova Scotia Sustainable Procurement Policy (2009) grew out of a commitment in the Environmental Goals and Sustainable Prosperity Act (EGSPA) This act recognizes that the health of the environment, the economy, and people, are interconnected.   Sustainable procurement looks beyond the lowest cost to consider the economic, environmental and social impact of our purchases to achieve the overall best value for government.

The release of the Sustainable Procurement Policy is the first phase in a multi-year initiative to make sustainable procurement common practice for Nova Scotia's government. The policy will be implemented on a category by category basis beginning with government wide standing offers.
