Farm Registration

Who Needs This Registration?
  Anyone in Nova Scotia who wants to access government programs supporting agriculture (including Farm Vehicle Licence Plates) and support the Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture.

Note: As of February 15, 2006, the Department will no longer be issuing refunds of membership fees. Clients may register their farms as they have in the past, but decline membership with the NS Federation of Agriculture and their personal information will not be forwarded to the Federation. All monies collected by the Department related to the registry of farms will be retained to support the work of the Federation of Agriculture.

  1. Online:

  3. By Mail:
    Requests for additional information may be mailed directly to: Nova Scotia Business Registry P.O. box 1529 Halifax, NS B3J 2Y4.
Once application is complete you may submit it with payment to:
  1. Online:
    You may also apply online at: Access to Business. However, new farms may also be required to submit additional documentation to support their application. Contact the Registrar of Farms, NSDAF (902-893-6510) for more information.

  2. In person:
    Any Access NS Centre or any Department of Fisheries and Agriculture Field office throughout the province.

  3. By Mail:
    Application and payment should be sent directly to: Nova Scotia Business Registry
    P.O. box 1529 Halifax, NS B3J 2Y4.
Program Related Questions:
  All program related questions, including those related to other financial assistance programs, should be directed to the Registrar of Farms Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture Tel: 902-893-6510 in the local calling area or 1-866-844-4276 (toll-free).
 
Waiting Period:
  5 to 7 business days
provided that all the items that must accompany the application have been received
 
Expiry & Renewal:
  This registration is valid for 1 year, covering the period from April 1 of one year to March 31 of the next. It is renewable, and the Department will send out a renewal notice approximately 4 weeks before it expires.
 
Price, Payment Method and Locations:
  The annual fees are based on gross farm income, therefore annual fees vary from one farm corporation to another. Fees range from $75.00 to $975.00.

Payment Online:
Payment for initial applications may be submitted by visiting Access to Business. However, as noted above, additional supporting documentation may be required to support the registration of new farms. Payment for renewals may be submitted online for renewals by visiting Access to Business credit card payment only (Visa, Master Card or American Express)
