Vehicle Permit (Plate) Renewal Service

If you encountered the following error message:

"This vehicle permit cannot be renewed online as the information entered is incorrect or this vehicle permit is not eligible for online renewal. Please click here for more information."

You may be receiving this message for the following reasons:

  1. Your vehicle permit is not expiring within the next two months.
  2. Your plate or vehicle type is not renewable online
  3. You have outstanding defaulted fines
  4. You have an outstanding suspension related to your vehicle, plate and/or vehicle permit:
  5. Your Nova Scotia Safety Code - Commercial Carrier Registration has expired or has an unsatisfactory rating as noted below:
  6. You entered information within the online services page that is not correct or is inconsistent with the Registry of Motor Vehicles database.

1. Your vehicle permit is not expiring within the next two months.

How to proceed:

Verify that you have entered the correct expiry date. Alternately, wait until your vehicle permit is due for renewal, within the next two months, as noted on your vehicle permit.



2. Your plate or vehicle type is not renewable online:

How to proceed:

Renew the above plate / vehicle types by mail or in-person and provide the appropriate additional supporting documentation as noted on your vehicle permit renewal letter.



3. You have outstanding defaulted fines :

How to proceed:

Pay all your applicable outstanding defaulted fines and reinstatement fees, online, in-person or by mail, prior to making application to renew your vehicle permit.

 

NOTE:  If you choose to make payment online for your defaulted fines you will not be eligible to renew your vehicle permit until the online payment has been processed (within 2-3 business days).  



4. You have an outstanding suspension related to your vehicle, plate and/or vehicle permit:

How to proceed:

Submit the appropriate application and fee for all applicable outstanding suspensions by mail or in-person prior to making application to renew your vehicle permit.



5. Your Nova Scotia Safety Code - Commercial Carrier Registration has expired or has an unsatisfactory rating as noted below:

How to proceed:

Submit the appropriate application and fee to renew your commercial carrier registration by mail or in-person prior to making application to renew your vehicle permit.  



6. You entered information within the online services page that is not correct or is inconsistent with the Registry of Motor Vehicles database. 

How to proceed:

Review the information you entered with your renewal notice or vehicle permit to ensure no errors were made.  If the information you entered was not correct, please make the necessary corrections and try your online application again.
